US Springfield Model 1873, CAL: 45-70. MFG: 1906, SN: 168181, 25 1/4'' barrel, U.S. made trapdoor breech loading action. Straight grip stock with grasping groves inletted, stock has been refinished so has just a few light scratches/dings, some oil/stain runs showing along stock from forearm and back to hand grip with additional oils added to the finish. Military style metal butt plate with no bluing, has US stamping at top, with some rust/pitting present. Barrel turning brown/grey patina overall, with some heavier rust staining present toward the muzzle. Receiver without bluing w/ some rust speckling, case hardening still visible on breechblock underside. Breechlock marked with U.S. MODEL 1873 168181 serial number on the breech block. The lock plate is stamped with eagle & U.S. SPRINGFIELD. Rear sight is elevator adjustable w/graduations from 1 to 5 & ladder adjustable w/ graduations from 6 to 12. Front sight is windage adjustable blade. Bore is in excellent condition, bright with strong rifling. Steel trigger guard, barrel band, sling swivel & hammer have light rust & some staining, looks like from stock staining. Mechanical function is good. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 800 to 1200
