Eli Whitney Model U.S 1812 Style II, CAL: 69, MFG: 1812, SN: None, round barrel 42'', Original walnut stock is in good appears to have been sanded & refinished a long time ago & retains a few light handling marks/scratches/dings . Wood to metal fit is very good. Barrel in the white with some scattered rust mostly around the hammer area. Barrel has no rear sight & a small blade front sight that is part of the front barrel band. Bore is dark, rusted & pitted. Original steel buttplate is dark brown patina. Action appears to function well & is very tight. Original ramrod present. In the years after the War of 1812, due to deficiencies perceived in the model 1795, the U.S. wanted them quickly replaced, and so also contracted out various orders to gun manufacturers of the time. On July 18th 1812 ELI WHITNEY received a U.S. Government Order for 15,000 Flintlock Muskets, to be delivered at a rate of 1,500 units per year for the next 10 years. To avoid confusion with his existing Contracts with the State of New York and others, he marked these muskets, at least initially with just N.HAVEN in a Scroll on the lock plates. NO FFL Req - Value: 300 to 2000
