U.S. Springfield Model 1839, CAL: 69, MFG: 1839. SN: None, Muzzle loading flintlock rifle, 42'' round barrel with visible markings ''V, P, eagle head''. The one-piece walnut stock has been thoroughly sanded and refinished with only shallow scratches & dings remaining. The cartouches appear to be ink stamped reproductions. Barrel, trigger guard, tang, barrel bands & buttplate have all been buffed to bright sheen. Lockplate on right is not refinished & shows crisp winged eagle over ''US'' & behind hammer: '' SPRINGFIELD 1839 '' stampings. Military steel Buttplate with ''U S'' stamped at top. No rear sight. The front sight is a small blade that is attached on the front barrel band. Bore is smooth w/some rust forming. Single trigger. Hammer & spring action are strong & mechanically sound. Leather sling not original to rifle. Ramrod appears original. A nice piece of American history. NO FFL Req - Value: 1000 to 2000
