Remington & Sons Remington Rolling Block Model 43 Spanish, CAL: 43. MFG: 1869- 1893, SN: None, 35 1/4'' round barrel. Single piece straight grip wood stock with a plethora of dings/contusions/gouges & initials carved in & some oil staining where wood meets metal around receiver & upper /lower tangs. Steel nose cap. The barrel appears to be military white with rust & greying patina throughout. The case-hardened receiver & trigger guard/tangs are in good condition with case colors faintly visible. Upper tang stamped: '' ''E. REMINGTON & SONS -ILION NY, U.S.A. PAT MAY 3d, 1864 MAY 7th, JUNE 11th ,NOV 12th, DEC 24th , 1872, DEC 31st, 1872, SEPT 9th 1873, JAN 12th , MARCH 18th, 1874'' Rifle is mounted with military style rear sight that is a combination sliding elevator/ladder sight. With the ladder folded down, the rear sight is a large ''V'' notch at the front of the ladder. The right side of the ladder is marked '' 1 to 4 '' for use with the slider as an elevator. When the ladder is raised, there is smaller ''V'' notch on the top edge of the slider. The ladder is marked from ''5'' to 11'' for use with the slider. The front sight is a small inverted V blade in a block mounted on the barrel. No stampings in the barrel except ''B'' just ahead of the Receiver. Bore is very good, shiny with sharp rifling and just a smattering of light pits. Buttplate appears original steel in fair condition some dings around mashed screws on top and bottom, looks like some of the rust has been cleaned off, still some light rust present. Original sling swivels mounted on the bottom of buttstock & middle barrel band. Retains original cleaning rod & socket type bayonet that has a dark brown age/rust patina.
