Italian Vetterli Model 1870/87/15 Carcano Conversion, CAL: 6.5X52 Carcano, MFG: 1880, SN: BA7308, Bolt Action Rifle. 34'' round barrel. Marked on barrel just ahead of receiver with: TORINO then '' 1880'' on the left side, ''P P'' in oval, serial number & proof stamps. Straight grain, oil finished dark walnut in fair condition w/numerous scratches & dings from age. Numbers painted on buttstock near buttplate, some stampings on left side of buttstock painted as well to bring out locations. Barrel bands are missing their retainers in wood stock. Rear sight is notched ''V'' w/ adjustable elevator numbered from 6 to 20 along the top. Front sight is flat blade. The barrel & other metal surfaces retaining 30% of the original blue on the barrel & 10% on receiver which appears to have been sanded over the majority of surface. Trigger guard, barrel bands & standard military style steel buttplate were rusted which has been removed leaving bare metal with some brown patina & with some rust speckling. Nose cap, magazine, trigger guard have a white painted outline of parts. Barrel has bayonet lug 3.5 '' from muzzle. Bore is good condition, dark with visible rifling. This rifle was converted to the 6.52 Italian service ammunition during WWI, this was done by soldering a 6.5 liner in the bore. A new magazine was installed that allows use of the Mannlicher-Carcano six shot clip. NO FFL Req - Value: 200 to 500
