Description

RARE CASED PAIR of E. Remington & Sons Model 1875 Single Action Revolvers, 44 (44-40) Cal, MFG 1875, S/N: 11 & 12, 7 1/2'' round barrels. The Model 1875 Single Action revolver was Remington's attempt to compete with the Colt Single Action Army. Many of these revolvers saw hard use in the Old West. Approximately 25,000 Model 1875s were manufactured between 1875 & 1889, the vast majority of which were nickeled finished. Collectors have speculated that a full 90% were nickeled. Whether or not that figure is accurate, it is certainly accurate to say this very early BLUED set of consecutive paired (#d 11 & 12) pistols is extremely rare. These early production pistols have very few markings. They are roll stamped ''E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. N.Y. U.S.A'' on top of the barrels. The #'s 11 & 12 are stamped on the left side of the grip frame under the grip panel. Pistol # 11 has the early production ''44'', indicating .44-40 caliber, on the left rear web of the trigger. The ivory grips on both pistols are excellent, with nicely aging patina & tight grain or age cracking. The metal sits slightly proud to ivory grips in most areas. The metal blue finish is a mix of original & applied finish over speckles, pitting & wear. The coverage sits at 90%, with areas of loss toning to browning patina. Bores are very good++, with some light roughness. Both pistols appear to mechanically function as they should, with proper indexing & hammer stops. The pistols come housed in a very nice vintage red felt lined presentation case, with key. An excellent opportunity to own a rare & early set of Remington survivors.* Antiques, No FFL Req. - Value: 10000 to 20000
