RARE, Rheinmetall Dreyse Armee Model 1912, CAL: 9mm, MFG: 1912-16, SN: 3001, Semi-Auto Pistol, 5 1/2'' barrel. Commercially introduced in 1912 & remaining in production until 1916 when all Dreyse pistol production ceased. They were available for private purchase to German officers during WWI & remained in dealers stock & advertised until 1920. Serialization started at 1001, with most known specimens having SN between 1001 &1531, with a few in the low 3000's (like this one). Estimated production was said to be as few as 600, while some estimate production to a high of 1000 pistols. The factory, checkered, black plastic pistol grips are very good, displaying some small scuffs & nicks, & a chip by the right screw. The metal blue finish rates 85% overall with honest wear. Bore is very good. This Dreyse model suffered mechanically from a stiff recoil spring which made it difficult to pull back by one hand. This example is also stiff, but does function correctly & slides accordingly. The SN (3001) is verified on the internal slide. Comes in black pig skin leather holster, a second mag & descriptive name plate. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 3000
