Makarov (Bulgaria) Model PM, CAL: Russian 9x18mm Makarov, MFG: 1963-65, SN: BO241087, Semi-Auto Pistol, 3 3/4'' barrel. A Bulgarian ''Circle 10'' import. Double action mechanism. 8 shots. Designed by Nikolay Makarov as a close copy of the Walther PP/PPK series pistols. The Russian 9x18mm Makarov round is slightly shorter & fatter than the 9-mm NATO pistol round used throughout the rest of the world. The idea behind it was in the case of a supposed contingency where stocks of 9mm Makarov ammunition might be captured by an enemy, that the cartridge could not be used in standard 9mm Luger pistols. A compact & concealable pistol which has become popular in all countries where Russia has had influence. Not surprisingly, since its introduction in 1951, the Makarov was frequently the handgun brandished by state security agents in the U.S.S.R. or the old Eastern Bloc. It has been the common sidearm of Russian Cosmonauts & is in the Granat-6 survival kit in every Soyuz spacecraft. The checkered, burgundy plastic grips are very good, displaying multiple tiny nicks & dings. The metal blue finish rates 90% overall, with light intermittent spotting. Bore is excellent. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1000
