Wakizashi Overall length in scabbard is 22 inches, the black lacquered Saya with ribbing carved at the opening end of scabbard for grasping left hand. Saya has brown Sageo cord attached. The blade is 15 inches in length late Edo period (1700-1800s) in nice polish with Omaru (large, sweeping turnback of the hamon in the kissaki. Temper is very nice highly visible Gunome (outline consisting of small pointed curves). There are some kizu (openings in the metal) from polishing near the front of the blade on one side, that do not go through the blade. This blade is not signed and is original length not a cut down longer blade. One mekugi-ana that was punched not drilled, another indicator of age. Blade and tang overall length is 19 5/8 ''. The tsuka is in excellent condition, tightly wrapped in handachi style similar to old tachi blades, mountings fuchi/kashira in solid silver. Buddha motifs in the menuki also solid silver. Rayskin under wrapping is in very good condition & appears fairly old. The tsuba appears to be soft metal brass/copper in excellent condition with engraved Buddha motif. The habaki is a single piece brass with light scratching decorations. Overall, a very nice matching Buhdda kosherae with very sharp, well balanced blade and ergonomic fitting handle. - Value: 500 to 4000
