Wakizashi Overall length in scabbard is 28 inches, the black lacquered Saya having many dings & scratches from age/use along with some chipping of lacquer to bare wood.. Saya has no Sageo cord attached. The blade is 19 7/8 ''in length Edo period (1700-1800s) in rough polish with some staining & rust throughout blade & chips round & at the tip. Temper is difficult to see, however, appears to have some wavy choji style remaining. There are no visible kizu (openings in the metal). This blade is not signed and is original length not a cut down longer blade. One mekugi-ana that was punched not drilled, another indicator of age. Blade and tang overall length is 25 5/16 ''. The tsuka is in fair condition & can use re-wrapping., mountings fuchi/kashira old iron with a little bit of gold inlay visible on fuchi. The menuki are non-matching iron with some brass inlay. Rayskin under wrapping is in fair condition & has been smoothed/polished & appears fairly old. The tsuba is iron, in fair condition with engraved dragon motif. The habaki is two piece gold wash over copper with light scratching decorations, there is some damage making the fitting rough. Blade in need of polish, kosherae is all there, just needs handle re-wrapped. . - Value: 200 to 600
