FANTASTIC & HISTORICAL Gold Plated, 101 Ranch Winchester, Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, Cal. 44-40, Mfg. 1893, S/N: 461401, 20'' barrel, This rifle belonged to the Famous Western figure Jack Case, who traveled all over the United States producing & performing in rodeos & western shows. He managed his own rodeo shows under the company name ''Jack Case Rodeo Attractions'' & later outfitted as the ''Bar-20 Ranch Rodeo''. Case was the assistant arena director of the Pendleton Round-Up in 1923 & went on to direct & perform in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Case also performed with his friends, the Miller's at the 101 Ranch Wild West Show, which toured all over America. Case also acted as manager of the 101 show during their European tours in 1924 & 1926.
His Rifle: Due to the fact that Jack Case used this rifle n his shows, it needed to be flashy & visible to the crowds. Thus the entire exterior is gold washed, or gold plated, except for the nickeled dust cover, block elevator, saddle ring, & sliding trapdoor in the buttplate. The original walnut are good & solid, as sanded & refinished. The forearm does have two 4 1/2'' & 2 1/2'' cracks. The barrel markings are light, but readable. Comes fitted with a flip-up ladder sight & standard block carbine front sight. Stamped on the left side of lower tang is ''J. Case'', which is not visible with the buttstock in place. Affixed to the right side plate is a 25 cent token from the 101 Ranch store. The bore is fair, but dark with pitting amongst the rifling. The action functions properly. This Winchester is accompanied by other personal items from Jack Case. The first is a tooled leather saddle scabbard with silver diamond medallions, silver tone round border tacks & tacks which form the initials ''JC'' for Jack Case. Second is a vintage Elgin, 17 jewel, open face pocket watch engraved on the back ''Fort Worth, Tex.'' / ''Jack Case'' / ''1928''. The S/N on the watch is 29176335 & is in working order. It carries a silver chain & horseshoe fob. Third item is a very rare 101 Ranch Cantina flag measuring 28'' x 25''. Fourth item is two terrific & colorful 101 Ranch bridle buttons stored in a ''101 RANCH'' marked leather case. The fifth item is a 30 x 29'' reproduction 101 Ranch Show promotional poster/die-cut. Also included is a binder of numerous personal photos, documents, flyers, show tickets, newspaper articles & personal correspondence from Jack Case. This is a fabulous lot of historical & truly collectible items from a famous personality of the Old West Frontier shows.* No FFL Req. - Value: 8000 to 14000
