Winchester Model 87 (1885) Third Variation Winder Musket Low Wall, CAL: 22 SHORT, MFG: 1919, SN: 130609, Single Shot Lever Action Rifle, 28'' barrel. The model 87 is the third variation of the 1885 Winder Musket low-wall. Most examples are martial marked, as is this rifle stamped behind the hammer & ahead of the upper tang ''U.S. Firebomb''. The straight grip wood stocks are very good, displaying numerous small scrapes, nicks & contusions. The metal blue finish on the receiver appears original & rates 90%, with spotting & small blemishes. The barrel carries full coverage of a brown patina. Barrel may be a replacement due to finish differences. The receiver carries a Lyman no. 53 receiver peep sight, which worn much more so than the receiver (gray) & has replacement screws. The Lyman sight is also stamped on the side (base) with the name ''L. DEE SMITH''. The front sight is a modern replacement. Bore is fair, worn & dark, but still with visible rifling. Buttstock carries a smooth metal carbine buttplate. Sling swivels. Action is stiff. A fairly rare, good condition gun. FFL or C&R REQ - Value: 500 to 1000
