STAGE COACH F.A. Loomis Model IXL No. 30, CAL: 10GA, MFG: 1880's, SN: 52506, Break Action SxS Double Hammer Shotgun, Choke: N/A, 22'' laminated steel barrels. The shotgun has a unique history of how it came into the possession of the cosigner & where it originated. It was a stage coach gun which rode the route from San Francisco to Carson City NV. The cosigner purchased the gun from a very old man in Tahoe in 1978. The old man had obtained the gun when as a very young boy around 1890 when he & his mother were in Carson City & witnessed two intoxicated men fighting in the street after leaving Rosie's Tavern. One of the men was the Security Rider for the Stage Co.. The Security Rider struck the other drunk over the head with the shotgun & broke the stock. He then discarded/tossed the shotgun to the ground & went to the stage stop. The young boy retrieved the shotgun, took it home & later attempted to repair the stock. He held onto the gun until selling it to the current cosigner so many years later. The receiver, trigger guard & breech end of barrels display simple decorative & border engraving patterns. The checkered, round pistol grip wood stocks are good, other than the break & amateur repair in the stock. The upper tang was also repaired by a non-professional. The stocks have nearly worn smooth checkering & numerous scrapes, contusions, nicks & dings. The metal has worn gray with a thin layer of brown patina & areas of spotty rust. Bores are fair, consistent spotting/pitting throughout. The double triggers & hammers appear to function properly. Solid rib holds a single front bead. The guns comes with a signed letter telling the history of gun. Would make for a good repair project. LOP: 14 1/8''. Antique, NO FFL Req. - Value: 200 to 600
