Description

FANTASTIC HAND ENGRAVED & CASED, Browning Model ''Superposed'', CAL: 12GA, MFG: 1952, Belgium, SN: 32014, Break Action O/U Shotgun, Choke: F (Top), MOD (Bottom), 26 3/8'' barrel with upper ventilated rib. The ''Old World European'' (Black leaf) engraving is by famous Weisbaden, Germany engraver Kurt Jager. Jager is also known for engraving guns for General George Patton & General Dwight D. Eisenhower. This particular shotgun has over 200 hours of engraving, with the receiver, barrel, tangs, break leve & trigger guard all engraved with an intricate, relief hand engraving, with silver inlaid game scenes on both sides. There are three ducks landing in a detailed pond setting on the left & on the right, a dog & two pheasants in a field setting. The trigger guard carries the relief engraved initials of ''GGR'', for Gerald G. Robinson. The shotgun was initially commissioned by Army Air Force Colonel Gerald G. Robinson. He is documented to have flown dozens of missions & 460 combat hours as a B-29 pilot. He was also the 875th Squadron Commander in the WWII campaign against Japan. He & his crew were featured by the famous war correspondent, Ernie Pyle. Colonel Robinson received the distinguished Flying Cross on January 3, 1945 in Nagoya, Japan for extraordinary achievment & bravery. The factory checkered, round pistol grip wood stocks are excellent. They display the original finish, with light surface scrapes, nicks & dings. The metal blue finish rates 97% overall, with the loss being mostly to areas of handling, like lower tang, edges & bottom barrel. Bores are excellent. The ventilated rib holds a single front bead. Buttstock carries a factory Browning buttplate. Bomes stored in a Gallyon & Sons LTD. leather shotgun case with cleaning supplies, snapcaps & silver oil bottle. The shotgun appraised for $4,000 over 40 years ago & comes with the documented 1981 appraisal from Gerald Knight, the manager of the gun department at Pachmayr Gun Works, Inc. of California. It also comes with Engraver Kurt Jager provided B&W images of his engraving work on this receiver before it was restocked & assembled. It also comes with a binder which includes military records for Colonel Robinson, photos & article about him. DAC: 1 3/8'', DAH: 2'', LOP: 14 3/8''. A wonderful custom engraved shotgun & case. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 4000 to 8000
