RARE Austrian Military Model 1840 Flintlock Saddle Ring Carbine, CAL: .69, MFG: 1851, SN: H 72, Muzzleloader, 14 1/2'' barrel. It was sold to the United States & imported just prior to the U.S. Civil War, where many of these weapons saw service, mostly on the Confederate side. The original wood stock is good, it displays numerous small contusions, scrapes, nicks & dings, but is solid overall. The metal finish is toned to a dark plum patina with consistent spotting throughout. There are multiple stamped markings reading ''H 72'', which we believe to be the SN, those are located on the left side of the sidelock, in front of trigger guard & left side of the metal bracket, above the forearm, partially under the set screw. There is a ''851'' stamped on the right side of the sidelock, research shows that is a date stamp for the year 1851. In addition to those stamps, there is a worn proof stamp on the back right side of the sidelock, a faint ''GB'' stamped on the top of the barrel & ''22'' stamped on the top side of the bracket, above the forearm. Bore is very good. Original iron sights. Original saddle bar with two rings and metal ramrod. Buttstock carries a smooth metal buttplate. The majority of these guns have been converted to percussion & any in original flintlock are quite scarce. NO FFL Req. - Value: 800 to 1600
