Van-Lew & Smith Percussion Shotgun, CAL: .50 '' bore , MFG: 1800's, SN: none, Muzzleloader Shotgun, 42'' barrel. Walnut stock in very good condition for age, checkered at the handgrip behind triggerguard that is worn smooth. Chip at bottom of buttstock at the buttplate about 1/2 '' deep. Sidelock, triggerguard, upper & lower tangs and buttplate tang all nicely engraved with scrolling & gamebirds. The finish on the damascus barrel has toned to a smooth chocolate patina, first 7'' of barrel is octagon then transitions to round. Single trigger. Wood ramrod with brass ends. Bore is fair, with darkening, not a lot of rust present. . Barrel holds a single front bead. Buttstock carries metal buttplate which has accent engraving along top tang 4'' along top of buttstock. LOP: 14 1/4''. This is a nicely hand crafted shotgun which shows its use, but is still wonderful in its detail & craftsmanship. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 100 to 500
