Austrian Model 1849 Garibaldi, CAL: .71 RF, SN: none, Muzzle loading percussion rifle, 32 '' barrel, first 7'' octagon then fades to the remaining round barrel. The light colored straight grain stock is lightly lacquered & appears to have been cut down for an overall length of 28'', stock has crack running from ramrod hole in front back about 10'', also several cracks in bottom of buttstock section. with scratches/dings throughout as well. No visible markings on gun except ''51 L'' stamped in brass sideplate on left side and on front part of trigger guard. Military style brass buttplate with ''17C17'' stamped on top. Rear sight is crude fixed blade with no adjustments. Front sight is small blade on block. The barrel & other metal surfaces are age brown/grey rust patina with scattered pitting. Smoothbore is in fair condition w/some rust, light pitting. No ramrod accompanies gun, Front ramrod support appears to have been repaired or added. No accommodations for sling. These .71 weapons were produced in Austria and sold in large numbers to Garibaldis Italian revolutionaries hence the name. When the Civil War broke out in the US these weapons were bought by Northern arms procurers & modified to percussion in Liege before shipment to the US. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 100 to 500
