US Springfield Model 1861, CAL: .58. MFG: 1862, SN: None, 40'' barrel, U.S. made muzzle loading percussion rifle. Straight grip stock has been sanded & refinished & remains rough, still having a scratches/dings/gouges throughout. Military style metal buttplate pitted & rusted to almost black color, visible US stamping at top. Barrel was heavily pitted over most of surface & appears to have been buffed & polished. No case hardening visible on lockplate. The lock plate is stamped with eagle & U.S. SPRINGFIELD & 1862. Barrel stamped with V P & eagle head. Rear sight is notched blade. Front sight is small fixed blade. Bore is in poor condition showing severe rust/pitting. Steel trigger guard, barrel band, sling swivel & hammer have heavy rust/pitting as well. No ramrod present. Mechanical function appears OK. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 400 to 800
