US Springfield Model 1863, CAL: 45-70. MFG: 1869 SN: 8494 32 1/2'' barrel, U.S. made trapdoor breech loading action. Straight grip stock with multiple use/age/handling/storage scratches/dings. Military style metal butt plate with dark brown rust coloration & has US & 32 stamping at top. Barrel is a light plum patina & contains dings scratches scattered throughout. Receiver retains no case hardening, light grey with rust speckling. Breechblock marked with ''1869'' eagle head & U.S. Matching serial number on the barrel & receiver. The lock plate is stamped with eagle & '':U.S. SPRINGFIELD & 1863''. The rear sight is a flip up ladder with graduations from 2 to 9 Front sight is small blade on block. Bore has been reamed or drilled out to a smoothbore & contains some light rust. Steel trigger guard, barrel band, sling swivel & hammer show some light rust & some staining. Trigger is smooth finished. Sling swivels on front barrel band & on front of trigger guard. Original cleaning rod/ramrod present. Mechanical function is good.
