US Springfield Model 1873, CAL: 45-70. MFG: 1878. SN:100963 32 1/2'' barrel, U.S. made trapdoor breech loading action. Straight grip stock appears to have been sanded/refinished & retains some use/age/handling/storage scratches/dings. Visible cartouche above trigger on left side with 1878 date. Military style metal butt plate with surface rust & has ''US'' stamping at top. Barrel still contains 40% blue & beginning to show some plum/grey patina overall, some dings scratches scattered throughout. Receiver appears to have a bit more wear 35% bluing. There is some nice visible case hardening on breechblock top & underside. Breech lock marked with ''U.S. MODEL 1873'' & serial number on the breech block. ''V.P'' over eagle head stamped on barrel just forward of receiver. The lock plate is stamped with eagle & '':U.S. SPRINGFIELD''. The rear sight is original 1873 trapdoor rear sight with graduations marked on left side from 1 to 5 then the flip up ladder marked 6 to 12 windage & elevation adjustable in good functioning condition. Front sight is small blade on block. Bore has light rust & retains some shine with visible strong rifling. Steel trigger guard, barrel band, sling swivel & hammer show some light rust & some staining. Trigger is smooth finished. Double swivels on front barrel band & single swivel on front of trigger guard. Original cleaning rod/ramrod present. Mechanical function is good. A nicely maintained rifle with very good overall finish. Comes with Request for issue or Turn-in paperwork with soldiers name & unit #'s appears to have incorrect model listed.
