US Springfield Model 1873, CAL: 45-70. MFG:1882. SN:200371, 32 1/2'' barrel, U.S. made trapdoor breech loading action. Straight grip stock appears to be original finish & retains some use/age/handling/storage scratches/dings. Visible cartouche above trigger on left side with 1882 date. Military style metal butt plate with some deep rust/pitting & has US stamping at top. Barrel retains some light blue & shows plum/grey patina overall, otherwise very good condition. Receiver appears to have a bit more wear. There is a bit of visible case hardening on breechblock top & underside. Breechlock marked with ''U.S. MODEL 1873'' & serial number on the breech block. ''V.P.'' over eagle head stamped on barrel just forward of receiver. The lock plate is stamped with eagle & '':U.S. SPRINGFIELD''. The rear sight is original 1873 trapdoor rear sight with graduations marked on left & right side from 1 to 5 then the flip up ladder marked 6 to 12 windage & elevation adjustable in good functioning condition. Front sight is small blade on block. Bore contains some light pitting & retains some shine with visible strong rifling. Steel trigger guard, barrel band, sling swivel & hammer show some light rust & some staining. Trigger is smooth finished. Double swivels on front barrel band & single swivel on front of trigger guard. Original cleaning rod/ramrod present. Mechanical function is good. Fine piece of Americana, this rifle would be a nice addition to collection. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 800 to 1600
