Nepalese ''Enfield'' copy Snider Model 1869, CAL: 577 Snider, MFG: 1870's. SN: 9334, Single shot breech block trapdoor rifle, 36 1/2'' round barrel. The original straight grip stock appears to have been sanded & refinished at least one time with poor wood to buttplate fit. Contains many dings/wood patches & oil staining beneath finish. No stampings on barrel or receiver only numbers on sight, buttplate, trigger guard & receiver block. The barrel & receiver show a grey/brown patina age worn finish. Rear sight consist of two blade sights with adjustable increments from 1 to 4 on side then a flip up ladder with increments 5 to 7 in foreign language. Front sight is small inverted ''V'' on block. Brass trigger guard, nose cap & buttplate original to gun, Retains original cleaning rod. Bore is good with some light rust spots & distinct, visible rifling. Action is tight & appears to functions well.
Rifles like this were once lost in perpetual storage in the Langan Silekhana palace in Katmandu, Nepal. They were placed there along with many other British arms and munitions encompassing centuries of history. This rifle is one that the British supplied to the Nepalese government after the Anglo-Nepalese War (1814-16). Comes with socket bayonet. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 600
