Great Western Gun Works , CAL: appears to be .36 Black Powder, MFG: 1880's, SN: NONE, Percussion Muzzleloader, 34'' heavy octagon barrel. The straight grip wood stock appears to have been re-finished at least once in its lifetime, still has some dents/gouges/scratches throughout. There is a crack on the right side from sidelock down to trigger. There is some dark staining in places. The entire barrel has a plumb color overall with some very lighter color beneath and on the flats.. Barrel is fitted with factory fixed buckhorn rear & fine dovetailed silver blade front sights. Rifle shows stamp on top flat of barrel: '' GREAT WESTERN GUN WORKS - J.H. JOHNSTON PITTSBURG, PA.'' the lock plate shows scroll engraving, scrollwork & birds & inscribed with ''JAS GOLCHER WARRENTEL''. Double set triggers. Wood ramrod missing brass tips. Smooth crescent brass buttplate & patch box appear to be original with greased patches in patch box, the hammer does not lock back & may require repairs. Bore is dark yet retains some crisp rifling. Nearly all rifles with Golcher/Goulcher marked locks were produced by other gunsmiths using locks made by the Golcher family. It was common practice for rifles to be built from parts of varying origin in the 19th century. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 200 to 600
