Winchester Hotchkiss Model 1879 Navy, Cal. 45-70, MFG 1879, SN 5339, Bolt Action Rifle, 28 1/2'' round barrel. The straight grip stock appears original and is covered with dings/scrapes/contusions & scuffs from handling, a lot of chipping on the buttstock at buttplate from mid-point of buttplate to toe on both sides. Metal blue finish on barrel & receiver has worn to a splotchy coverage of 25% overall with grey/brown patina forming. Floorplate & trigger guard are mostly gun metal gray. Bore is good, shiny with a couple of light rust spots & sharp rifling. Receiver & Springfield-made barrel contains ''W.W.K.'' , martially marked with proofmarks ''V / P / eagle head'' at left breech. Directly above the proofs are the Navy markings that show the ''US'' and the anchor motif, ''H.N'' on left side of receiver reads '' MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS Co. NEW. HAVEN. Rifle exhibits crisp and strong mechanics. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 800 to 2000
