Remington -Lee, Model 1879 Navy, CAL: 45-70 Stevens, MFG: 1879-92, SN: 554, magazine fed bolt action, 29 1/4'' round barrel. The factory straight grip Walnut stock is in very good condition for age with some light cracks & chipping at the toe & some small dings, stock may have been lightly sanded and oil finish re-applied. There is a ''13'' stamped in stock just ahead of the top of buttplate. Barrel stamped just ahead of receiver with ''P - WF'' & anchor stamp. Top of receiver stamped '' THE LEE ARMS CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN. USA. - PATENTED NOV 4, 1879 - 554 at rear left side of receiver there is ''HH'' stamp, possibly a double stamp ''H'' The metal finish on the barrel shows a dark brown age-toned patina, the receiver is matching. Bore is good, worn from use & age, but visible rifling. The rifle carries an adjustable rear sight with graduations on the ladder from 6 to 12. The front sight is a small fixed blade on small base. The buttstock carries a smooth slightly crescent metal buttplate that has a dark brown rust patina. Retains cleaning rod with dark brown patina matching rest of rifle. Double sling swivels on front barrel band & bottom of stock just ahead of magazine. A rare & desirable make & model piece. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
