Remington & Sons Remington Rolling Block Model 1870 Possibly Spanish, CAL: 11.15 X 57R. MFG: 1866 -70's , SN: 30450, 33 1/4'' round barrel. Two piece straight grip wood stock with many dings/contusions/gouges & some oil staining where wood meets metal around receiver & upper /lower tangs. Steel nose cap. The barrel appears to be military white with most of surface covered in rust & greying patina. The case-hardened receiver & trigger guard/tang do not show case hardening & show rust staining with some scratches/pitting. Upper tang stamped: '' ''E. REMINGTON & SONS -ILION NY, U.S.A. PAT MAY 3d, 1864 MAY 7th, JUNE 11th ,NOV 12th, DEC 24th , 1872, DEC 31st, 1872, SEPT 9th 1873, JAN 12th , MARCH 18th, 1874'' some of the stampings are worn smooth. Rifle is mounted with military style rear sight that is a combination sliding elevator/ladder sight. With the ladder folded down, the rear sight is a large ''V'' notch at the front of the ladder. The right side of the ladder is marked '' 1 to 4 '' for use with the slider as an elevator. When the ladder is raised, there is smaller ''V'' notch on the top edge of the slider. The ladder is marked from ''5'' to 11'' for use with the slider. The front sight is a small inverted V blade in a block mounted on the barrel. No stampings in the barrel except ''B'' just ahead of the Receiver. Bore is dark, with worn rifling& light pits. Buttplate appears original steel in fair condition some dings, dark rust coloring overall. Original sling swivels mounted on the bottom of buttstock & middle barrel band. Missing cleaning rod. Barrel has socket type bayonet lug, no bayonet with rifle. Action is tight & appears mechanically sound. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 250 to 1000
