German Gewehr Model 88, CAL: 7.9 X 57 mm. MFG: 1890, SN: 8551 . German made bolt action, 29'' barrel. Straight grip Walnut stock containing multiple scratches/dings throughout, otherwise in good shape for age. Military style plain metal butt plate with some rust present. Barrel retaining about 30% bluing with some scratching/fading further in spots. Receiver showing 40% bluing w/ some bare metal showing in place. Receiver ring marked with ''S'' over crown ''ERFURT 1890'' & German proof stamps on right side of receiver. Left side of barrel has serial # stamped & receiver shows Mod. 88. Rear sight is adjustable ladder with increments from 6 to 20, there is some play in the sight to barrel fit. Front sight is dovetailed adjustable inverted ''V'' blade. Bore is in fair condition, darkening w/ visible rifling. Mechanical function is good. Non- matching serial numbers on barrel, bolt & magazine floorplate. Original sling swivels.
