EWFG Steyr, Model 1886 Kropatschek, CAL: 8mm, MFG: 1886-89, SN: 0531. Bolt action rifle, 32 3/4'' round barrel. Stock appears to be original that is fairly well covered in dings/scratches & gouges from years of handling & storage. 1 inch circle stamps on both sides of buttstock 2 inches ahead of buttplate. Front & rear sling swivels present. Stampings on left side of receiver ''EWFG STEYR 1886''- crown w/ LI below it - ''M1886''. Bolt has matching #'s CG 96 in four places. SN matching on barrel/receiver - 0531. Proof marks partially visible just above stock. Barrel, trigger guard & receiver carry little remaining blue w/ rust speckling throughout & grey patina. Rear ladder sight adjustable marked 5 to 16 on left side & 17 to 22 on right side. Ladder is loose, may be missing a part. Front sight is a heavy inverted ''V'' blade that is windage adjustable. Bore is good with visible rifling & some light rust/copper traces. Well-worn steel buttplate with rusty speckling present. Action is functional, mechanically sound. Cleaning rod housed in groove on left side of stock. Kropatschek's rifles used an 8 round tubular magazine (constructed of nickel-plated steel) of his design, of the same type used in the German Mauser Gewehr 1871/84 & the Japanese Type 22 Murata. While designed for black powder, the Kropatschek action proved to be strong enough to handle smokeless powder. Comes with correct bayonet/scabbard that are in very good condition, bayonet mounts on lug contained on right side of barrel. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 1500
