Dutch Beaumont- Vitali, Model: M1871/88, CAL:11 mm, MFG: 1875 SN: 3475, Bolt Action Rifle. 32'' round barrel. Marked on barrel just ahead of receiver with: proof marks, SN, date of manufacture, matching numbers on bolt & parts & receiver. Straight grain, oil finished dark walnut in fair condition w/numerous scratches & dings from age. Cartouche on buttstock near buttplate contains 1875 MFG date. Rear sight is notched ''V'' w/ adjustable elevator numbered from 2 to 18 along the left side.. Front sight is inverted ''V'' blade. The barrel & other metal surfaces retaining 10% of the original blue on the barrel & 10% on receiver which appears to have been sanded over the majority of surface, there is substantial rust/pitting. Trigger guard, barrel bands & standard military style steel buttplate were rusted which has been removed leaving bare metal with some brown patina & with some rust speckling. Magazine, trigger guard have rust speckling. Bore is fair condition, dark with some pitting, still sharp. visible rifling. featuring a 4-round non-detachable box magazine with a magazine cutoff. The magazine is loaded with special stripper clips made of a Swiss-style steel and wood stripper clip; after being loaded into the weapon, the clip can be taken out of the weapon with the use of a pull string situated on the top of the clip. These stripper clips are noted as being very similar to that of the ones used on the Vetterli-Vitali The weapon's 4-round magazine is of a unique shape due to a unique coil spring along with the bottle-nosed nature of the 11.350mmR cartridge. Conversion of the rifles began in 1888, with all Royal Dutch Army rifles converted; however, not all rifles that saw service in the Dutch East Indies or those used by the Home Guard received conversions. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 300 to 600
