Belgian FN Model 1949. CAL: 7.9 x 57 mm. MFG: 1949-56. SN: 18241. Semi auto rifle, 23 1/2'' barrel. Egyptian contract model. Stock may be replacement stained Birch & is in excellent condition with just a few small dings. Metal fit is very good. Markings on left side of receiver: '' Serial number then, Fabrique National D'Arrmes De Guerre__HERSTAL BELGIQUE'' & some Aribic writing as well. The right side of receiver contains proof marks. Top of Receiver has crown stamp. Barrel stamped with import markings: ''CAI ST ALB VT M49 7.92.. This rifle appears to be unissued. Barrel & other metal parts are parkerized in excellent condition, however there is some storage rust around the trigger guard & on the magazine. Rear sight is elevation adjustable with 10 graduation marks in Arabic. Front sight is large blade dovetailed for windage adjustments & has metal protective ears. Bore is very good crisp clear, shiny. Overall condition is excellent with all parts original & complete. The FN49 was designed by the Belgian manufacturer Fabrique Nationale before WWII; however, plans to produce the semi-automatic rifle were abandoned when the Germans occupied Belgium. Many FN engineers fled to England during the war and returned to Belgium when it was liberated by the allies in 1944. With their return to Belgium these engineers revitalized their plans for what would eventually become the FN49 (also known as the SAFN short for ''semi-automatic FN''). While the FN49 was high quality in its time, it saw limited production and use because it did not come into production until after WWII and it eventually had to compete with the popular HK G3 & FN FAL rifles which utilized more modern technology. The FN49 was produced for 8 primary contracts. Sling swivels installed at forearm & buttstock. Comes with correct bayonet/scabbard that are in very good condition. . FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
