Ithaca, Model 1911 U.S. Army A1, .45 ACP Cal., Semi-Auto Pistol, Mfg. 1943, SN: 1302497, 5'' barrel. ''ITHACA GUN CO., INC. ITHACA N.Y.'' stamped on rear of left side of slide. ''UNITED STATES PROPERTY'', ''M1911 A1 U.S. ARMY'' & ''No. 1302497'' are all stamped on right side of frame. ''FJA'' (Frank J. Atwood) Inspector Stamped behind trigger on left side. Lt Col Atwood was the US Army Executive Officer in charge of all ordnance activities in his district. Lt Col Atwood was assigned to the Rochester Ordnance District & had sole responsibility for inspecting & accepting or rejecting all war material that was produced or manufactured under Government contract in this district from mid-1942 through early 1946. During this time frame in the Rochester district both the Remington-Rand & Ithaca factories fell under his control. Consequently if you look at any model of M1911A1 produced by either of those companies, you will see his initials ''F.J.A.'' prominently stamped on the left side of the pistol frames. Underside of trigger guard is stamped ''CAI ST. ALB VT 45 A.C.P.''. The reblued metal finish retained at 85%, with areas of light rust & pitting. The checkered hard plastic grips are excellent, with very tiny dings. Bore is very good, with strong rifling, Fitted with the standard lower profile fixed sights. Unmarked blued magazine. Lanyard staple on bottom strap. All parts may not be original to pistol. Serrated backstrap. Backstrap squeeze safety. A nice US Property, Army stamped WWII example. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 1000 to 2000
