Lane & Read Boston, Model Fowling Gun, CAL: ???? Barrel dia..7555'', MFG: 1826-49, SN: NONE, Single Barrel Muzzleloader Shotgun, 28'' Octagon to round. William Read (Lane & Read) was located in Boston, MA circa 1826-1880. He's listed as Lane & Read from 1826 until 1849 after which time he's listed as William Read & Sons from 1850 until 1880, which indicates the earlier production. The sideplates, hammers, upper tang, trigger guard, buttplate & metal inlays are all similarly engraved with simple floral scroll design. The checkered, straight grip wood stock is very good & solid, as refinished at one time. It displays numerous surface scrapes, nicks & dings. The metal finish is toned or worn to a spotty brown patina, with worn areas of metal grey. Bore is poor, dark & worn from age & use with standing rust. Factory front bead. Buttstock carries a rusted, once smooth, metal buttplate. Ramrod located under barrel. Blank inlaid brass oval name plate on bottom of stock. A great wall hanger. DAC: 1 15/16'', DAH: 2 3/4:, LOP: 14 3/8''. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 400 to 800
