VERY RARE!! US TRENTON Model 1861, CAL: .58. MFG: 1863, SN: None, 40'' barrel, U.S. made muzzle loading percussion rifle. Original straight grip Walnut stock is in outstanding condition, with very few small scratches/dings. Military style metal buttplate in excellent condition with a few light rust spots ''US'' stamp on top. Barrel along with all other metal parts in excellent bright condition with only minor staining in places. . The lock plate is stamped with eagle & '' U.S. TRENTON'' & ''1863''. Barrel stamped with ''1863 & V P'' & eagle head. ''NJ'' stamped on left flat with all stampings very sharp & clear. Rear sight is original two-leaf flip up sight stamped with ''3'' & ''5'' respectively.. Front sight is small fixed blade. Bore is in excellent condition - clear & bright, showing sharp rifling. Steel trigger guard, barrel bands (w/U stamps on all) , sling swivels & hammer are shiny, excellent condition as well. Original steel tulip-head ramrod present. This rifled musket was a product of the Trenton Locomotive and Machine Company of Trenton, New Jersey, circa 1863-64 and was sold to the State of New Jersey under contract. The firm also had contracts with the U.S. government as well and produced some 11,500 weapons for the army. Mechanical function is full & tight. A minty, near museum condition/quality piece rarely encountered in this well preserved shape - comes with socket bayonet that had some rust/pitting that has been cleaned.
