Description

Dutch Hembrug Model: Karabijin95, CAL:6.5X53R, MFG: 1916, SN: 7199, Bolt Action Rifle, 18'' round barrel. Non-checkered straight gripped stock in fair condition with some deep scratches/gouges/chips mostly on bottom of stock. A 1 ''circle stamped at base of buttstock, containing ''HEMBRUG 1940'' / & large'' W'' under crown.. The metal blue finish is 65% barrel & receiver & bolt appear in the white. Well made steel buttplate w/light scratches & some surface rust. Rifle is fitted with adjustable flip up notched rear sight w/ increments from 4 to 20, front is inverted ''V'' blade sight dovetailed into base. Bore is good with well defined rifling. On sling swivel on bottom of buttstock. This Dutch Model 1895 Mannlicher Carbine was made back in 1916 at the Hembrug Arsenal in the Netherlands. It is patterned off the Steyr Model 1895 that was made for the Dutch in Austria. The Dutch Mannlicher, also known as the M.95 (Model 1895), was the service rifle of the Armed forces of the Netherlands between 1895 and 1945 which replaced the obsolete Beaumont-Vitali M1871/88. At first it was produced by Steyr for the Dutch, but after 1904, production took place under license at Hembrug Zaandam in the Netherlands. It was based on the earlier Mannlicher 1893 Model that was submitted to and won the Romanian rifle trials. The M1893 was itself a somewhat modernized version of the German Gewehr 1888. Both Dutch and Romanian rifles fired the same rimmed 6.553mmR cartridge often referred to as ''Romanian'' or ''Dutch 6.5''. The Dutch issued about 470,000 M.95s. This model appears to be a rarer engineer model without the upper handgaurd. FFL or C& R Req. - Value: 300 to 600
