Colt Single Action Army, CAL: 44/40 , MFG: 1897, SN: 172201, Single Action Revolver, 7 1/2'' barrel. First Generation single action Army revolver. The hard rubber grips are excellent with only lightly worn checkering & displaying only some light scratches on the bottoms. The metal finish on the barrel is retained at 65%, with spotty areas of brown patina & speckling. Blue on cylinder in recessed sections. The case-hardened frame & hammer have faded case-colors. Grip & trigger housing showing some remaining blue, with most wear on front & backstraps. Bore is excellent. The front blade sight has been altered. Matching SN stamped on frame, trigger guard & backstrap. Comes with Colt factory letter dated March 8, 1985 from M.S. Huber - Historian, showing this revolver was shipped to Montgomery Ward & Co. Chicago IL. on November 20, 1897. Mechanical function is very good. Antique NO FFL Req. - Value: 2000 to 4000
