Colt Model 1861 Navy Richard's-Mason Conversion, CAL: 38CF, MFG: 1864, SN: 21598, Single Action Revolver, 4 1/2'' barrel. This Colt is fitted with a factory installed percussion-to-cartridge conversion, Richards-Mason type. These were converted during the mid to late 1870s from returns of various military & civilian 1861 Navy revolvers. They can be found in rim-fire or center-fire. These were converted from .36 caliber percussion to .38 caliber cartridge. Most of these conversion revolvers retain the original .36 caliber markings. The top of the barrel is marked, but very faint, ''ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA'' & 1871 & 1872 patent dates on the left side of the frame. The left part of trigger guard is marked ''36 CAL''. The matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap & butt, the partial number ''1598'' is on the loading port gate. The cylinder roll engraving of a naval scene is very faint. The faux ivory grips are excellent, displaying only a couple minor nicks & dings. The barrel, frame & cylinder have all worn mostly gun metal gray. The nickel finish is mostly worn from the brass. Bore is very good, worn, but rifling is proud. Factory sights.
