Rare Boxed Chicago Fire Arms Co.& Ames Sword Co., Model Protector Palm Pistol, .32 Extra Short Rim Fire Cal., MFG 1892, SN: 9602, These were designed & first manufactured by Jacques Turbiaux of France in 1882. Later in 1883 it was built in the USA as The Protector by the Minneapolis Firearms Company before the rights were sold to Peter Finnegan of the Chicago Fire Arms Company. In anticipation of the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893, he contracted the Ames Sword Co. to MFG 15,000 pistols, Ames made only 1,500 of the pistols by the deadline of the exhibition, A law suit pursued & they ended up producing another 12,800 pistols to fill most of the contract & all were sold by 1910. This example has a floral engraving on the barrel & additional engraving designs around the outside of the frame on the right side, which is also marked ''THE PROTECTOR PAT.MCH.6.83.AUG.29.93'' in a circle inside the side plate. The left side plate is checkered around the border with ''CHICAGO FIRE ARMS CO. CHICAGO, ILL'' in a circle at the center. There is no right sideplate. Matching serial numbers are on the major components. The nickel finish is 95%, Again missing right side panel. Mechanically excellent. No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 3000
