EXCEEDINGLY RARE Wooden Model of a 1874 Gatling Gun. This is a functioning mechanism gun & carriage. It functions in the sense that the barrels rotate, the wood bullets cycle & then fall to the ground. As this is a wood model, no rounds are projected out the barrel. This example is believed to be the original wooden model submitted to Colt Firearms for patent in December 1862 by Dr. Richard J. Gatling. Included with the Gatling is a 1973 dated letter by R.H. Wagner, Spare Parts Manager of the Firearms Division of Colt Industries. In it, he mentions how in 1933 he discovered the various parts in the basement of the old Connecticut State Library. He further discusses how he & a friend spent two years assembling & fully restoring it back to it's original condition. Although little information was found with regards to its overall history, it is interesting to note that a wooden model of a gatling gun & an original production model were included in the Colt display at the 1876 Centennial in Philadelphia, PA. In the letter Mr. Wagner refers to a photo that existed from that Centennial exhibition of this wooden Gatling being displayed along side that Colt Gatling. The wood bears the same location marking of the patent # of 36836. The functionality of gun still works today, with the sets of wooden cartridges feeding through the two column Bruce Feed system, & dispensing them onto the ground as the barrels rotate. Funtionality needs to be adjusted to consistently operate. Marked on top of receiver, ''R.J. GATLING MACHINE GUN No 36836 PATENTED NOV 4 1862''. Size: 41'' x 72'' x 45'' tall. HERE IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE TO OWN A PIECE OF U.S. HISTORY!! Grade: Excellent - Value: 1000 to 15000
