RARE Winchester Model 1902 WINCHESTER JUNIOR RIFLE CORP RANGE KIT. ''The Winchester Junior Rifle Corps is an organization formed to encourage marksmanship among boys & girls not over 18 years of age, also to teach the safe handling of a rifle. It combines all the fun of shooting with the encouragement of high skill in marksmanship & good sportsmanship. For kids, it encourages the strong, normal instinct for a rifle to find expression in a useful, character-building way.'' Early advertising indicates this Model 04 Range kit sold for $12.95. Despite the membership of the Junior Rifle Corp reaching over 100,000 at its height, relatively few of these kits were sold & far fewer survived, which makes them very rare today. Included in this kit is a Model 1902, Cal. .22 SHORT, LONG, EXTRA LONG. SN: None. MFG: 1902-31 The Model 1902 is take-down, single shot bolt rifle. 18'' round barrel. The original wood stock is excellent & solid, with minor blemishes & contusions to the wood & original finish, but remains excellent overall. The original metal finish remains at 85%, with areas of thinning loss on the trigger guard toning to a brown patina. Barrel markings are excellent. Bore is very good. The barrel carries the original sights. Winchester marked rubber buttplate. ''S'' shaped trigger guard. Overall appearance & original condition is excellent, which is uncommon amongst these early models. The rifle comes stored in its original dark wood case, with ''WINCHESTER'' painted on the lid. ''WINCHESTER'' is still strong & clear, with some flaking, but examples of these kits rarely retain this much of the painted name. The hinges, clasps & leather handle are all functioning & excellent. Inside this kits come (4) Winchester Smokeless .22 SHORT shell boxes, (3) full & sealed, (1) open but full. Also included is an original tube of Winchester gun grease in its original cardboard sleeve, a tube of Winchester rust remover in its original cardboard sleeve & an empty can of Winchester green painted label gun oil. It also has a glass corked bottle of Winchester Crystal Cleaner, a solid cleaning rod & an added Gunslick tube. With the kit is a canvas take-down rifle case, a nylon belt pouch & a canvas belt, with brass buckle which has ''WJRC'' on it in modern lettering. Included are four WJRC/NRA shooters medals. The kit also includes a plethora of rare & original papers & brochures, Including: A blank WJRC Membership Certificate, A hanging envelope, Rules of the WJRC booklet, a WJRC Match Information sheet, a Winchester .22 caliber Rifle & Ammunition Booklet, a ''Ask Dad For A Rifle'' brochure & a set of Official 50 ft Targets. These Range Kits are difficult to find in any condition, but this is a very complete set & in very high condition, & with so many additional WJRC accessories & papers.
