Unmarked Cane Gun, CAL: 410, MFG: Late 1800's, SN: N/A, Single Shot Breech Loading Shotgun, 29 3/4'' barrel. The stopping power of the cane gun would have been formidable at close range in a London alley. Reloading was fairly quick, accomplished by a half twist & sliding or pull apart of the shaft, the spent cartridge pulled free & replaced with a fresh shell. Later models included an ejector lever to pop spent cartridges out. Like many cane guns produced, this one was not marked with any stamping. The shaft is leather wrapped & in very good condition, despite displaying its age with nicks, dings & fine webbing throughout. The walnut handle is excellent, with minor contusions & surface scrapes. The outer cover of the upper part of the shaft is polished brass, as is the muzzle end of the barrel with a brass plug or cap. The smooth bore is very good, but with a few spotty areas of roughness & pitting. The cocking/trigger mechanism does function, but could benefit from some adjustment for more consistent & safer functionality. It is not recommended to fire any cane gun as the majority that remain are quite old & very collectible. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 500 to 5000
