Winchester, Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine, Third variation, .44 WCF Cal., MFG: 1887, SN: 254740B, Lever Action Carbine, 20'' Round barrel, Full mag. This carbine has seen some action as a frontier gun riding stage coach, saddle on a cattle ranch or years with a trapper. It has earned every one of its dings, scraps & contusions. The stocks appear original, with the forend measuring in at 9'' & LOP on stock measuring in at 13''. They have a weathered, yet wonderful aged patina, with lots of Old West wear, yet are solid & with a good metal to wood fit. It has a tight 1'' hairline crack on the comb at the top tang of the buttplate & a 1 1/2'' at the forend tip. They have lot of authentic character from the dings, scraps & contusions consistent with heavy honest use. The stock also has numerous small chips of wood loss & edge wear at the buttplate, along the upper & lower tangs & against the receiver. Most of the finish has worn thin & has likely had added protective oils &/or waxes in its life. The metal displays a worn, but even gun metal gray, with spotty remains of a brown/grey patina. The meatal has lots of abrasions, nicks & cleaned rust pitting. Roll stamps & caliber markings are present, but display thinning wear. Bore is surprisingly very good, with strong rifling & black powder scarring. Barrel carries the factory carbine front & ladder rear sight, which functions well & remains mechanically tight. Stock carries the original carbine buttplate, with sliding trapdoor. Retains original saddle ring. We are not gunsmiths, but the action & dust cover appear to work properly. Trigger has front to back slack, but also seems to function correctly. As always, we recommend a good internal cleaning, oiling & inspection from a gunsmith before use. These old 1873 carbines are favorites amongst collectors, particularly in 44 caliber & this one would have some wonderful old frontier stories to tell. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 4000
