Weatherby, Model Mauser South Gate, marked 270 MAGNUM Cal., MFG: Late 1950's, SN: 5294, Bolt Action Rifle. 24'' Tapered round barrel, This rifle is a Weatherby Mauser South Gate built by Roy Weatherby himself. He utilized commercial FN Mauser actions to build his rifles in the legendary Weatherby Magnum cartridges prior to manufacturing the well known MK V action. These rifle were produced in his small shop in South Gate, California. The rifle has been finely & professionally restored. The original checkered, cheeked, flat pistol grip & Monte Carlo wood stock is excellent. The stock has fantastic rippled grain & the satin finish is excellent, with sharp checkering & few minor handling marks. Contrasting wood 45 degree forend tip & pistol grip cap, with signature diamond inlay. The restored metal blue finish rates 98% overall. The Mauser 98 action has a thinned stamping on left side of; ''WEATHERBY/SOUTH GATE.CALIF.'' Left side of barrel is marked ''WEATHERBY 270 MAGNUM''. Bore is excellent, shiny & bright. The receiver bridge is factory tapped for scope mounts & the muzzle end of barrel has screw provisions for a front sight, no rear sight provision. Stock carries an original Weatherby ventilated black recoil pad. Sling studs. 13 3/8'' LOP over pad. A fairly rare early Weatherby hunting rifle. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 600 to 1200
