U.S. Springfield, Model 1873, CAL: 45-70, MFG: 1881, SN: 155930, 32 1/2'' barrel, Trapdoor Breech Loading Rifle. The straight grip stock has been cleaned/ partially lightly sanded & re oiled, but it still shows the character & cartouches are still clearly visible. Normal scratches, dings & wear from this vintage of rifle. Cartouche above trigger on left side marked ''1881''. Military style metal buttplate, with dark brown patina & US stamping at top. Barrel is plum/grey patina overall, but still has some of the bluing in protected areas. Receiver appears to have a bit more wear, with little case-coloring remaining. Breechblock is worn mostly gray with some finish remaining & some rust spotting. ''V.P'' over eagle head stamped on barrel just forward of receiver. The lock plate is stamped with eagle & ''U.S. SPRINGFIELD''. The rear sight is original 1873 trapdoor rear sight, with graduations marked on left side from 1 to 5, then the flip-up ladder marked 6 to 12, elevation slide in good functioning condition. Front sight is small blade on block. Bore is excellent, & bright, with strong riffling. Steel trigger guard, barrel band, sling swivel & hammer show some brown patina. Trigger is smooth finished. Double loops on front barrel band & single loop on front of trigger guard. Cleaning rod is present. Mechanical function appears very good. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 400 to 800
