Savage RFA Co., Model: Navy, Cal: 36, MFG: 1861-65, S/N: N/A. Single action percussion revolver. 7 1/8''. Civil War era revolver. Approximately 20,000 of these unique revolvers were manufactured & during the first two years of war the government purchased 11,284 revolvers. The unique action functions with a lever and a trigger. The lever has a loop for the middle finger. When the lever is pulled back the cylinder turns & the hammer is cocked, the lever is released & the trigger is pulled to fire the weapon. The wood grips are very good, with minor wear, light scratches & tiny contusions. Top of receiver is marked ''SAVAGE. R.F.A. CO. MIDDLETOWN. CT H??ORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856 MAY 18 1859. MAY 15 1860''. The metal surfaces have worn or been scrubbed to a gun metal gray appearance, with dings, scratches & cleaned pitting. Bore is good, with pitting & defined rifling. The pistol has four corroded nipples, one broken & one appears replaced. Factory sights. Appears to function properly, with good timing. This is a very unique & rare revolver from a historical era in our country. Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 1000 to 3000
