Description

RARE!! Special Order Winchester, Model 1894 Carbine, CAL: 30 WCF, MFG: 1915, SN: 815735, Lever Action Rifle, 20'' barrel. This gun is most likely 1 of 10 special ordered 94's by the Ray Consolidated Copper Co. (RCCC) in AZ for protection against a possible attack by Mexican Revolutionists (circa 1916). In 1933 Kennecott acquired the assests of the RCCC. Amongst the assets were (10) nearly pristine Win Mod 94' Special Order Carbines. In the 1940's the GM of the Ray Mining Division determined there were no longer a need for these rifles & they were sold to the company's employees. According to the article included, the exact configuration of the gun in the article matches this example. While this particular carbine has not been previously verified to be one of the ten special ordered, the chances of this very rare variation being built just two days prior the one that is verified & it not being one of the ten is very unlikely. The special order features included a crescent metal rifle buttplate, no saddle ring, a modified barrel stamping to clear the rear sight, a ''California'' rear buckhorn sight & walnut stock, as opposed to a gum wood, which was used during that time period. This particular example appears to have been fired very few times, if at all outside the Winchester plant, as the original protective cosmoline is still inside the receiver. The straight grip wood stocks are excellent, displaying the original finish & having few minor handling marks & contusions. The metal blue finish on the barrel & mag tube rates 97%, with the loss due to minor edge wear. The receiver has just 70% coverage due to typical spotty Winchester flaking loss. Areas of loss are starting to tone to a brown patina. Bore is basically mint. The barrel is fitted with the California full buckhorn rear sight & carbine box blade front sight. Buttstock carries a smooth crescent metal buttplate. This gun comes with two printed article pages from the Summer 2011 ''The Winchester Collector'' magazine discussing these special order carbines & a Cody Firearms Museum Record sheet confirming the SN application date. This is a special & very high original condition 1894, with a great history. This example would be a wonderful addition to any Winchester lever collection. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 6000
