RARE Remington, Model 14R CARBINE, .25 REM Cal., MFG: 1914 Early 3rd year of production, SN: 34884, Pump Auction Rifle, 18 1/2'' Round barrel, The smooth straight grip wood stocks are in fair to good condition.. The stock has 3 to 4'' grain cracks emanating from the lower tang & on each side of the wrist, which have been stabilized with the addition of a 1/4'' band of metal at the point of connection of the stock & receiver. The stock & forend have been sanded & refinished, likely at the same time as stock repair. The stocks still have a nice overall appearance, with some light scratches or contusions. The metal finish has 85% coverage on the barrel, 70% on the receiver & mag tube, of finish which has toned dark gray, with areas of thinning starting to tone to a brown patina. There are filler screws on the left side of the receiver where a scope mount previously resided. Bore is good, dark & with some roughness amongst strong rifling. Bore is actually above average & better than most of these 25 caliber rifles due to the corrosive primers used on this caliber in early cartridges. Rifle is fitted with an adjustable Remington rear sight & small blade front sight. Stock fitted with the original upside-down teardrop metal buttplate found on most carbines. Action is tight & functions well. These carbines were popular along trap lines or as brush hunting rifles due to their shorter length. Only 125,000 model 14's & its variants of 14R, 14 1/2, & 14 1/2R rifles were produced. The vast majority of these were the standard length Model 14, with the carbines being the rare variation. This is a fairly rare .25 caliber & still a collectible example as a carbine pump. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 500 to 1500
