FABULOUS Griffin & Howe, Custom Built Mauser Rifle, CAL: 7mm, MFG: 1959, SN: 2284, Bolt Action Rifle, 21'' barrel. G&H were a wholly owned subsidiary of Abercrombie & Fitch, which at the time was self-claimed ''The greatest sporting goods store in the world''. This rifle is accompanied by a factory letter from G&H, signed & sealed by Robert C. Beach - Archival Research at G&H, as well as a 3 page archival letter, that explains in depth the history of this rifle, the page numbers within the company record books where the rifle was recorded & it's travels taken throughout it's time in the company. The original checkered, cheeked, & capped pistol grip stock, with ebony forend tip, is excellent. The stock was described G&H as being finely figured & the original finish has very few tiny contusions & light surface scuffs. There is a blank inlaid silver oval or nameplate in the belly of the stock. The original metal blue finish rates 99% overall, with few very fine surface blemishes & a slight discoloration towards the muzzle. The floor plate, trigger guard, safety lever, forearm screw, barrel band & front sight rampant ramp are all beautifully engraved with an ornamental scroll pattern. The floor plate displays a fantastic gold inlaid bull elk's head & the triggerguard is likewise inlaid with an excellent gold pronghorn buck. The engraving & inlays were done by Master Engraver Joseph Fugger at G&H. Bore is excellent, with bold rifling. The receiver is fitted with an elevation & windage adjustable Lyman 48 aperture sight, while the barrel carries beaded blade front ramp sight. The buttstock carries the original checkered metal buttplate. Sling studs. Jeweled bolt. A truly gorgeous rifle with a great history. A quality firearm in very high original collector condition. LOP 13 3/4''. This rifle was part of the fantastic Robert Katz Collection. FFL or C&R Req. - Value: 3000 to 5000
