Description

EXTRAORDINARY!! Colt, 1884 Production U.S Marked D.F.C Inspected Cavalry Single Action Army, CAL: 45, MFG: 1884, SN: 113514, Single Action Revolver, 7 1/2'' barrel. This gun has had a professional Colt quality restoration & is near mint. This revolver was apart of a 200 gun shipment delivered to the U.S Government - Inspector at Colt Plant on Dec. 17th 1884. The inspectors were Captain Frank Heath & David F. Clark. Clark inspected a total of 13,000 Single Action Army revolvers from eight different government contracts during his eight-year tenure at Colt from 1880 to 1887. As the arsenal sub-inspector assigned to the Colt factory during this time, Clark inspected every contract revolver in detail. As a result, this revolver bears his sub-inspection initials, D.F.C., on nearly every major component. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the fourth style elongated block address: ''COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.'' in one line. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/three-line patent marking followed by the ''U.S.'' property mark. The small ''D.F.C.'' sub-inspection mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel, bottom of the frame above the serial number, side of the chamber & on the right grip heel. A small ''P'' proof mark is stamped on the underside of the barrel ahead of the ''D.F.C.'' sub-inspection mark & on the side of the cylinder. A ''N.J'' is stamped on the left side of the barrel, just above the extractor. The lower left side of the grip is stamped with the date ''1884'' above the Ordnance final inspection stamp which consists of the encircled script monogram ''FH''. The Ordnance sub-inspection stamp, which consists of the script initials ''DFC'' in a rectangle with rounded ends, is stamped on the lower right side of the grip. The inside of the loading gate is stamped with the assembly number ''53''. The full SN, ''113514'', is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard & butt. The partial serial number ''3514'' is stamped on the side of the cylinder. All of the visible SNs match & all stampings are extremely crisp. The wood grips are near mint. The metal blue finish on the barrel, cylinder, trigger guard & backstrap rates 99%+. The frame is case-hardened, with full & vibrant case-coloring. Bore is excellent, with small areas of light roughness. The barrel holds the correct blade front sight & integrated rear groove. This revolver comes with a Colt factory letter confirming the configuration. The is an exceptional example of a U.S. contract Colt Single Action Cavalry revolver & is one of the best, D.F.C inspected Colt Single Action revolvers in existance.* Antique, No FFL Req. - Value: 7000 to 12000
