Sharps & Hankins, Model 3C, 4-Barrel Pepperbox, CAL: 32, MFG: 1859-74, SN: 8653, Single Shot Slide Action Pistol, 3 1/2'' barrel. The top of the barrel assembly has the correct, mostly clear, Sharps & Hankins address, ''ADDRESS SHARPS & HANKINS PHILADELPHIA PENN.'' & the right side of the frame is marked: ''C. SHARPS PATENT JAN. 25. 1859''. The wood grips are excellent, with minor handling marks & dings. The metal finish has toned to a mix of metal grey, thin brown patina, & with light remnants of blue on the barrels. Bores are fair, dark & rough, with thin rifling. The barrels hold a single blade front sight & the top of the frame has an integrated rear groove. This is a fascinating design that incorporates a rotating firing pin that turns 90 degrees, over to the next barrel, each time the hammer is cocked. The firing pin or notch actually rotates on a small cylinder at the face of the hammer. A hand pushes a series of cams on the back of the cylinder to turn the pin; in a similar mechanism to how a revolver cylinder is turned. A really unique & cool collectible piece. Antique No FFL Req. - Value: 400 to 1000
