E. Lefaucheaux, Model 1858, CAL: 12mm, MFG: 1858-65, SN: 97804, Double Action Revolver, 6 1/8'' barrel. Liege marked along with multiple other proofs. The revolver is a six-shot open framed design, which is loaded via a hinged gate on the right side of the frame, through which empty cartridges were also ejected by an ejector rod running along the barrel. The revolver was sold to the civilian market as well for military use. Most military models were produced only with single-action & civilian models were made primarily with double action, which is this example. The wood grips are very good, with a few contusions, light surface scrapes & dings. The metal finish has toned mostly gun metal gray, with a thin brown patina. The border of the frame, trigger guard, back & front straps have a simple straight-line border engraving. Bore is good, with proud rifling & some rouhgness near the muzzle. The barrel holds a small fixed notch rear sight & fixed tall front sight. Lanyard swivel ring present. Action & timing function well. A nice example of a Civil War era French pinfire revolver.
